I know this isn’t everybody’s cup of tea, but if you’re looking for something different to listen to, check this out. It’s a commercial-free stream of nothing but popular dance tunes and jazz from the 1920s and 1930s. There are a few old timey ads thrown in too, like one that suggested you buy genuine Chevrolet accessories for that special someone at Christmastime. It’s kind of like watching an endless episode of The Little Rascals. The song lyrics are clever, often as much innuendo as you could get away with in 1925. This stuff always makes me smile.

I’ve actually been looking for something of this nature. Well, not looking, but thinking about looking. Why? Once a week, I’ve been running a session of the pen-and-paper role-playing game
Call of Cthulhu.
In it, the players are characters from various walks of life investigating strange happenings out of the works of H. P. Lovecraft, Clark Ashton Smith, August Derleth, Robert Chambers, etc. etc. Weird Fiction. The setting is 1925, so a mood-setter like this is ideal.

Excellent. I discovered this quite by accident and in the old-fashioned way. I was driving home one day and hitting the search on my radio. And it was dead luck thatI found it, because it’s broadcast at the bottom of the dial at very low power from some guy’s house. I was thrilled to find they had a stream, even if they do still advertise Real Player. I like playing it at home while I’m doing housework. Dance music is a great tempo to work to.

I’m glad this exists. I should pass this on to our school to pipe over the speakers for their 100-day celebrations.

That would be fun. It makes great background music, and most of it is up tempo.

Reminds me of the old radio plays from the 40s and 50s. Some of them were pretty good. X Minus One, the Creaking Door, Suspense...

I’ve got it playing quietly right now. It’s perfect for a nice quiet evening without a TV, much like it was back in the day.
